Rockwood’s wastewater treatment plant and collection system serves approximately 1,800 customers. The collection system enters the plant and is treated through an activated sludge biological system consisting of a newly constructed oxidation ditch. This system replaced the original trickling filter system. The upgraded treatment system, completed in 2014, allows the plant to easily meet all EPA and TDEC requirements for the discharge into Black Creek.
The Wastewater Treatment Plant employs one full time operator and two operator trainees. The plant is operated 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. It is staffed during the regular work week and part time on the weekends and holidays. Our collection system consists of approximately 31 miles of pipe serving 1,859 residences or businesses. The collection system is maintained by our operations personnel in close cooperation with the treatment plant. The utility has two full time personnel licensed in collection and several other employees in training for certification. Both treatment plant staff and field personnel are committed to delivering high quality service to all our customers and maintaining rigorous standards for protecting our environment. All wastewater treatment and collection system activities are regulated by the Tennessee Department of Environment and Conservation and the Environmental Protection Agency. All certified personnel are required to completed continuing education requirements in order to maintain licensure. All of our certified personnel exceed the required training in order to ensure that we achieve above the minimum requirements for our customers.
