On the afternoon of July 13, 2017, TVA contractors sprayed herbicide in the area of Rockwood Water, Sewer and Gas’ raw water intake facility. They installed signage that indicated a hazard. The utility halted operations while investigating the chemical utilized. TDEC and other agencies confirmed that no health hazards are present that would pass through our plant and there was no need to delay our normal procedures. We resumed pumping operation early the morning of the 14th which is similar to our normal protocol. A TVA representative handling the project contacted our staff this morning to let us know that the wrong signage was placed on the site by a summer worker and the spraying had no hazardous substances. They have since changed the signs which they indicated were posted only as a courtesy. RWSG takes the protection of our intake system and all of our systems very seriously and the health and safety of our customers is our primary focus. We are confident that all of our drinking water continues to be safe for all of our customers and meets all requirements.
